The Chill is Coming - Are you Ready?

It's that time of year - the cooler temperatures are just the beginning reminders of what's around the corner! The chill is coming!

If you're like me, this means thinking about how will I stay warm, and in particular, how will I keep my cold feet, warm and cozy. Good thing, I already know how I'm keeping my feet warm this year!

In my felt boots, which I wore, for the first time when I was just a little girl. In fact, if I close my eyes, I can still bring myself back to the memory of playing for hours in the snow wearing my boots and how wonderfully warm my feet were, and I can also, sadly remember outgrowing my boots and having to pass them along to my cousin who as well, wore them until they again, found a new owner. Talk about being sustainable!

No need to mention just how many years ago that was but I am happy to fast forward to present time and know that my feet will be just as warm this year, as I slip into my Aki Choklat for Lahtiset felt boots.

Lahtiset located, in Jamsa, Finland have made wool, felt boots for the past 93 years and in my opinion, they are nothing short of being, moving art! It takes eight days, to make a single pair of shoes and boots and the handcrafted process requires the skills of artisan hands. Pure lambs wool, spring water, sustaianable dyes, glues and rubber soles blends Lahtiset's approach to stay united with nature and ensuring that the environment remains uncontaminated by this art.

What makes felt boots so special and a great option for keeping your feet warm?

Wool has some unique properties that make it one of nature's most amazing fibers and a pretty smart insulator. Think of it like a thermos for your body -- it can keep you warm or cool depending on your needs. The secret to both of these facts are the tiny pockets of air within each wool fiber that offer both insulation and breathability which means it keeps you warm without overheating your body.

Although not waterproof, wool is able to soak up as much as 30 percent of its own weight in moisture without feeling wet, which is one of the reasons it can still keep your feet warm even when you're trudging around in the snow. Rumour has it that felt boots will keep your feet warm in temperatures of -50, here's hoping we won't have to test this theory out this winter, but I can say, last year at -36 my feet have stayed happy, warm and dry. Oh, and I should mention, I like wearing my boots without socks just my bare feet and my boots.

So what can a pair of felt boots do for you?

Warm feet - check! Fun and fashionable - check! Sustainable and a kind footprint on the environment - check!

What's not to love - bring it on, I'm ready for the chill!
