Living Eco-conscious - Uniikii Tips to get you ready for Fall

As the end of summer approaches (sigh), kids have gone back to school and we start piling on the layers of clothing, swapping flip-flops for boots and watch as the leaves turn to warmer shades of stunning, we think it’s the perfect time to look inside and out in preparation for the upcoming season.

From the #insideout

From gaining a clearer perspective of where we’re heading, to ensuring we’re on track to living as sustainably and naturally as possible. Taking the time to re-connect on every level, is something everyone should do, but few of us ever get around to actually… well, doing. Whether you’re in need of a little Zen, considering ways to give back to the community, or showing gratitude for all the good things in life, now is the perfect time to sit back, sip some cinnamon spiked cider and contemplate your navel – or at least everything attached.

Tips for a Greener Gorgeous You

In an effort to increase our karma and be kinder to both ourselves and this planet we inhabit, here are a handful of eco-friendly tips to help get you ready for the fall:

Flirt with a little Au Naturel

Winter is coming and that means soon-to-be cracked, dry skin. Give your skin a break and choose all-natural products to prepare your skin for the change in weather. Green beauty is a growing trend and there are lots of natural, organic alternatives we can use. Try organic coconut oil as a moisturizer or Luvlii from the UK (http://absolutelypure.com/body/moisturisers/luvlii-unscented-body-lotion-236ml-8oz-price-25.html). We also recommend some of our favourite natural body soaps to keep you smelling delicious all year round and they are gentle on your skin. (http://www.theradkat.ca) If you’re feeling a little crafty, try making some of your own favourite products! For example, did you know that you can make your own deodorant by adding ¼ cup of baking soda to a ¼ cup of coconut oil and approximate 5 drops of essential oils? Give it a try! Your armpits will thank you.

Dare to Detox

One of my favourite green living tips? Give your body the royal treatment and go on an ‘unofficial’ detox. Focus on buying products that benefit every part of you and step away from processed junk foods that don’t offer any nutritional value. From power foods to green smoothies, eating foods that come straight from the earth will help you feel rejuvenated for the tough months to come. The kicker? Fresh foods also come in less wasteful packaging, making them the eco-friendly choice. A win for you, and a win for the environment - it doesn’t get any better than that!

Host a Pinterest Party

Here’s what you do: break out a little vino, invite over the craftiest people you know, and then introduce them to the huge pile of knick-knacks you’ve been meaning to throw out for ages. Challenge your friends to find ways to recycle and reuse items that haven’t been used in quite some time. Need inspiration? Check out Pinterest and peruse some jaw-dropping ideas that will have you transforming old shoe organizers into planters, leftover corks into corkboards, and cribs into workbenches. There are hundreds of fun projects waiting for you and your tipsy girlfriends to conquer. Have fun with it!

Love Nature

Be the green! Feel the green! Live the green! Taking a walk outside not only gives you a better appreciation for nature’s beauty and the value of green living, but allows you to get in touch with your thoughts in a way that is tough to do when constantly surrounded by the hustle and bustle of city-life. Step away from the noise, the chaos, and the stress, and take the time to focus on yourself, your goals, what you want to achieve and how you plan to achieve it. As you witness the changing of the seasons, think about what you could do to create positive change in your own life. Take a moment to stand in awe of nature’s beauty and consider trying an eco-friendly activity like canoeing, running, biking or yoga to help focus your energy; whatever grounds you. Just don’t forget to breathe...

With Love,

Joanna and Susan
