When you imagine your life, all your dreams and desires you’re striving towards, do you also remember to think about your health? Are you taking care of the most important thing – YOU!
Are you making your health a priority along with all your other goals or are you, of the mind, that you’ll get to it when the so-called “other” important stuff gets taken care of first?
When it’s all said and done, is the so-called, “other” stuff really important, if in fact, you don’t have your health!
Is it time to consider how important a healthy life is to you? Are you ready to remind yourself that in the big picture none of the other stuff really matters if you don’t have your health!
I know for myself, I can’t consider any other part of my life without knowing that the most important foundation, the thing that always stays in tandem with every other part of my life is -- my health!
Interestingly enough, I have found over the years that most people have no idea what true health actually feels like. They accept that if they feel pretty good, don’t seem to look unhealthy, don’t have a weight issue and really don’t get ill more than the average person that they are achieving optimal health. I’m afraid in my books, this is what I would consider average health and I don’t know about you, but I’ve never thrived for average!
Building a strong foundation of health doesn’t happen over night but if you commit to making small incremental changes and working at it every day, this is one goal that is more than achievable. There’s no question that you can take more aggressive steps to fast track and build a stronger foundation more quickly but like most things in life it just depends on how motivated you are with your desire. Either way, the one thing that I can tell you is that your body will support you every step of the way. No matter what you’ve done in the past, the body is completely forgiving and will celebrate every step and change you make to align your health back to what is, its natural state.
In its natural state, the body is looking to us, for the best source of nutrients and minerals, not calories and certainly not what unfortunately so many people consume too much of these days – processed foods (ladened with sugar, fat and salt), processed hydrogenated oils (canola, cottonseed, corn, peanut, sunflower, safflower and soybean – these contain excessive omega-6 fatty acids which promote inflammation), sugar (and it’s hidden in more places than you think), artificial sweetners, white flour and too many grains just to name a few. This is a great recipe for creating complete imbalance in the body. A breeding ground for disease. Cancer, inflammation, diabetes, yeast, arthritis, insomnia and most other diseases have a link to over consumption of sugar.
A body in balance creates harmony! Feed the body nutrients and minerals through a diet of real food. A diet of primarily of raw, natural, whole foods of fruits and vegetables and in my books more vegetables than fruits. Organic where it’s important and this includes fruits, vegetables and animal proteins. Maintain limited amounts of healthy grains like quinoa, brown rice, millet, etc. Consume healthy omega 3′s, and essential minerals and make sure to chew your food and this includes your liquids! Supplements are key to ensuring that you don’t fall short and just as with your food choices, supplements should always be of the best quality. If you’re unsure, do your research or find someone you trust to guide you. Some of my favourite supplements include an omega 3, vitamin D3A, a liquid vitamin and mineral supplement and a greens and mineral powder.
Whether you fast track your health by committing to a cleansing regime or whether you work it, by making consistent, small changes every day you will reap the rewards. A body in balance, will reward you with more energy than you thought possible, to take you through your day without the burden of a mid-afternoon crash, your cravings will disappear – sad but true but the body really does just want the good stuff which means that when you want that piece of chocolate, it’s from your wish to enjoy and savour it and not an unstoppable craving which usually means you can’t just enjoy a small piece and be satisfied, you need to eat the whole thing! You’ll sleep better, you won’t get sick and you’ll manage life and all its stresses with the ability to actually smile.
It’s taken me years, to build the foundation I have in place and every day I make it a priority. I continue to tweak and make changes as I learn better ways to support my health. I live by the lines, “When you know better, you do better!” Of course, I would be remiss if I also didn’t mention that you need to move your body and breathe! Life is a beautiful thing when we take care of the most important commodity – ourselves!
At the end of the day, here’s what I know for me, however my life unfolds before me, with my foundation of health in place, the goals and desires I meet become truly priceless!
